Dr. Thomas E. Strain, Sr.


For more than half a century, Dr. Thomas E. Strain, Sr. was on the staff of Tri-State Hospital and Willis-Knighton Health System.  Dr. Strain was born in Simsboro, Louisiana in 1898 and after graduating from Louisiana College taught school until entering the Baylor University Medical School in Waco, Texas.

 After graduating in 1925, Strain returned to Shreveport to become the first intern at the Tri-State Hospital.   For 25 years, Dr. Strain worked at the doctor owned clinic specializing in pediatrics and internal medicine.  Then along with his two sons Dr.Thomas, Jr. and James R., he opened the Strain Clinic near the Willis-Knighton campus. 

Dr. Strain, Sr. retired in 1976 and he died in 1979 at the age of 89 but his son, Thomas, Jr. continued to practice.
