WK Community Health and Wellness Center

Often people in urban, rural and under-served neighborhoods do not have access to convenient, affordable medical and fitness services. Seeing the success of the WK Community Health & Education Center in North Shreveport, the Rev. E. Edward Jones of Galilee Baptist Church wanted similar services for those in the Allendale neighborhood where his church is located.

Dr. Jones invited Willis-Knighton Health System President & CEO James K. Elrod to bring services to the Allendale community. To sweeten the offer, Galilee agreed to provide a building if Willis-Knighton would agree to renovate it and provide a clinic for the neighborhood.

This partnership evolved into the WK Community Health & Wellness Center and features what we believe to be the first fitness facility created by a hospital especially for an under-served neighborhood.

Renovation of the building began in 1997 with the facility opening its doors in 1999.  It contains not only a clinic, but wellness center designed to improve the health and wellbeing of the people Willis-Knighton Health System serves.
